Fall 2013 Maker Classes
Some exciting things happened this summer at Windy Ridge Innovation. We recently returned from the Valley Home Educators convention in Modesto, CA, where we had a tremendous outpouring of interest for our new Mad Maker Kid classes (3D printing, 3D design, and interactive electronics). These inventing classes aimed at jr/sr high school kids are proving to be one of the most popular developments of the year. Click the link below to see a short 3 minute video with excerpts from our most recent class:
If you know a creative, curious kid who would be interested in inventing cool things, or if you are an educator who would like to bring this to your classroom, take a minute to complete our interest survey at . We are planning our fall and spring offerings and would love to bring a class to your area!
The list below includes our current class offerings and a short description.
- 3D Printer Fun: Learn about 3D printing. Young inventors discover the kinds of things they can build with a 3D printer. Each student will upload and print a small 3D model they can take home.
Time: 1/2 day Cost: $35/student - Inventing In 3D: Students discover the types of objects they can Design and Build with digital 3D tools. These budding young designers will try out 3D design tools similar to those used by professional engineers, architects, and inventors.
Time: 1 day Cost: $65/student - Inventing With Electronics: Curious future inventors try their hand at using electronics and programmable microcomputers. This class is designed to demystify the electronics we use every day. After this fun day of building, students realize that they too can become inventors, engineers, or scientists.
Time: 1 day Cost: $65/student - Mad Maker Kids: This class introduces 3D design, 3D printing, programming, and electronics. After this intensive class, Mad Maker Kids come away with the realization that anyone can invent with affordable, cutting edge tools if they have curiosity and determination. The class uses a team-based project to encourage collaboration, inventiveness, and determination.
Time: 5 days Cost: $265-$330/student - Teaching Kids to Invent Workshop: This 3 day intensive workshop will introduce and demystify the tools used by many of todays maker and professionals to invent the “Next Big Thing.” These tools (3D design and printing along with physical computing) can easily be integrated into any classroom. In addition, we discuss the foundations for effective teaching with technology. This is a class of Hard Fun!
Time: 3 day Cost: $450/person – ask about multi-educator discounts - Advanced Classes: A deeper approach to 3D design, 3D printing, microcomputer programming, and the fundamentals of electronics. These classes focus on a single technology (3D design, 3D printing, microcomputer programming, and the fundamentals of electronics) to encourage deeper learning. These are fundamentally hands-on classes that will use concepts from geometry, algebra, engineering, physics, and other technical subjects. Email us for more information.
Hands-on Math & Science? 4-H club project? Girl Scout troop badge? Afterschool program? Home education enrichment class? So many possibilities! We can’t wait to bring Maker Education to your school, group, church, or organization!
